Clough's technical perfection and his love of experimentation, guided by experience and intuition, are also evident in his own printed works. "Mojave Desert" is an abstraction based on 26 colors of the desert area of the same name, located between Los Angeles and Las Vegas and covering over 6000 square kilometers. The edition, published in small numbers, is part of his “Landscape Stripes” series, which beguiles with its meditative color gradations. Clough works with overlapping layers of color, creating nuanced, gentle transitions. “Starting from the top I was adding white in small amounts to the ink on the screen each time I made a color shift,” he describes his approach.
