Serio Press is delighted to unveil a new edition utilizing a proprietary and experimental technique. This collaboration was born from an idea to “destroy” the media being printed on through a controlled process in order to create a textural effect. By printing a transparent gloss layer repeatedly onto a soft paper without allowing the ink to dry, the paper absorbs the liquid and begins to stick to the silkscreen. As the screen is lifted between pulls, it tears the paper in the areas where ink is passing through.
The process compliments the aesthetic of Shepard Fairey’s wheat paste posters that have adorned the streets for decades. Exposed to the elements, the wheat paste posters degrade over time, resulting in prints that are weathered and torn.

“Open Minds” is a phrase that I've used in several pieces of my work. It's something I believe in really strongly. You have to be observant, analytical, and have an open mind to comb through all the misinformation and disinformation that's out there in the world in order to be empowered to make smart decisions. I do a tremendous amount of research so that I can make the statements I make with some confidence that they're valid. And for all the complaints people have about how they feel powerless within societal structures and political systems, I think that the antidote to that is having your eyes and your minds open and being proactive, voting, and spending your money in ways that are political. Proceeding through life with purpose and awareness. In this image, the portrait is segmented by a dramatic rip and the color shifts between sections of the print along the ripped edge. This symbolizes the current fractured state of media and interpretations of what's going on in the world as well as serving as an urge to peel back the layers of everything we're confronted with.

Artist Bio:
Shepard Fairey was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1989 he created the "Andre the Giant has a Posse" sticker that transformed into the OBEY GIANT art campaign, with imagery that has changed the way people see art and the urban landscape. After more than 30 years, his work has evolved into an acclaimed body of art, including the 2008 "Hope" portrait of Barack Obama, found at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. In 2017, the artist collaborated with Amplifier to create the "We The People" series, which was recognizable during the Women's Marches and other rallies worldwide in defense of national and global social justice issues.
Fairey's stickers, guerilla street art presence, and public murals are recognizable globally. His works are in the permanent collections of the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and many others.
Shepard Fairey has painted more than 110 large-scale murals across six continents worldwide.
