In loving memory of TS Claire 1984-2016
T.S. Claire was a self-taught Los Angeles painter who was always a strong voice for female empowerment and equality. She specialized in painting the female portrait, and the women she painted possess an independent and incredibly powerful inner strength. They are modern icons that both men and women can relate and rally behind as they seem to say, "You can do it. You can rise above your struggles."
We always admired Tina as a very caring, sensitive, and intelligent individual, as well as an extremely hard-working and dedicated artist. She was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer on Christmas this past year and since then, our admiration for her only increased. She battled the cancer without complaint or negativity, when many of us would be self-pitying and full of despair. Even after her recent passing on March 9th, she continues to be an inspiration to us all, and we are so grateful that we have the opportunity to share these prints with the public, so they can enjoy and inspire others as they have us.
The Vaya Triptych is based off three 24" x 24" paintings that debuted at TS Claire's show, Heroine, in July of 2015. The original paintings were painted on a frosted mylar substrate, so we chose a paper that would be comparable aesthetically. The translucent Yupo paper we used has the same frosted transparency, with an added durability, being made from polypropylene, while being acid-free and inert. We printed the line-work using gloss black ink, to increase the contrast with the matte gray and paper.
