About the Art
Thank you to all of you who supported #NoDAPL with your donations. We donated $3500 to the Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council to provide necessary care for the heroic water protectors.
We will continue to donate 100% of proceeds to the Mni Wiconi Health Clinic Partnership at Standing Rock. The donations ensure that access to decolonized healthcare remains in place for the Standing Rock Reservation community, just as it was provided during the Dakota Access Pipeline resistance encampment by our council.
“As I have followed the events at Standing Rock unfold over the last couple of months, I have experienced a dichotomy of feelings: on one side I am enraged, disgusted and deeply broken hearted. I have felt powerless to help as I watch footage of the armed police shooting rubber bullets, freezing water, pepper spray, etc. into crowds of peaceful water protectors (crowds that include elders and children). They stand together to protect their water and their sacred ancestral land—this time under threat by an oil pipeline.
But I choose to feed the other side of my emotions: the one that is inspired and excited to see people from all over coming together to support these inalienable human and earth rights. Although the mainstream continues to hide and alter the news sources in the favor of the oppressors, the grassroots community is growing in momentum and strength. It is creating an opportunity for us to help one another and forge the changes we desperately need—one small step at a time.”
